Welcome to Sajjanpur, Bollywood Movie (2008)

Review : It was Jawaharlal Nehru who changed the name of a small town, Durjanpur, to Sajjanpur, and that was about all the change that had occurred there since then. The town still lacks adequate infrastructure, no safe drinking water; in a 24 hour period, electricity is out for almost 23 hours, and most people, even though they own mobile phones, cannot speak or write English. One of the residents, who does speak and write English fluently, Mahadev Kuswah, lives with his mother, and both run a small fresh vegetable store after his dad abandoned them when he was very young. He has since obtained a degree from Satna University, and assists residents with written correspondence for a fee. Amongst his clients are Man Singh - who wants his homicidal wife to stand for the Municipal elections; a eunuch, Munnibai Mukhrani, who also to stands for elections; a snake charmer who is trying to make a living with fake snakes and is trying to locate his father; Ram Kumar...

Desh Drohi, Bollywood Movie (2008)

Description: Rajkumar Singh Yadav lives a middle-classed lifestyle in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, along with his parents and paternal grandfather, and studies in Nehru Public College. His father wants him to be a farmer, but Rajkumar wants to be a police officer. After hearing of Shekhar's success in Mumbai, Rajkumar decides to also re-locate there, become a police officer, return home, and get married to Neha, his fellow collegian. Upon arrival in Mumbai, Rajkumar will soon find out that local Marathas despise people from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar; and he will soon be pitted against goons, local politicians, be betrayed by his friend and lover, and the Police will be launching a man-hunt for him for killing several police officers.

Sorry Bhai! , Bollywood Movie (2008)

Description: It's not exactly shocking or path-breaking, the story about a man falling for his brother's fiancée—over 20 years ago, there was the sensitively made Panchvati had the same plot, only Onir's Sorry Bhai is light (not enough) and shallow (very). Siddharath (Sharman Joshi) is supposed to be a scientist, who is working on a project to "make a toy dog fly" and seeking a grant for that. Could anyone take a man like that seriously? His redeeming feature is that he plays the saxophone and has all the time in the world, when his older brother Harsh (Sanjay Suri) is a busy stock broker in Mauritius (which is a pretty location, but hardly such a major financial hub!)

Ru-Ba-Ru, Bollywood Movie (2008)

Description: Bangkok-based Tara Mishra and Nikhil Singh meet at a wedding ceremony and fall instantly in love with love with each. They move in together and continue to live a fairly blissful lifestyle until Tara is invited to India to attend a wedding. Nikhil not only refuses to accompany her but also refuses to introduce his widowed mother, Meera, who is now living with another male, Dilip, to her. Tara, a talented singer/dancer, feels neglected as he is always focused on his business, is not prepared to make any long-time commitment, and forgets important events. An encounter with a taxi-driver compels Nikhil to change his mind, but things do no work out, Tara leaves him and shortly thereafter passes away in an accident. A devastated and guilt-ridding Nikhil returns home, cradling her photo and falls asleep. He wakes up the next morning with Tara alive and well next to him. Was he hallucinating the events from the previous day or was he being warned by fate to change his ways?

Singh Is Kinng, Bollywood Movie (2008)

Description: Happy Singh lives in a small village in Punjab. He is always compassionate and helpful, but often ends up causing more damage so much so that the Village Panchayat gets together to reprimand him. When the community gets news that one of their residents, Lakhanpal Singh, is an underworld don in Australia, they decide to delegate someone to counsel him. The villagers chose Happy, so that they can get rid of him. Happy's ticket and other costs are paid for, and the Panchayat even asks a reluctant Rangeela to accompany him. Due to a mix-up, both end up in Egypt, leading to romance in Happy's life when he meets with Sonia, a Criminologist, who would prefer to have criminals killed than reform them.
